Goodyear Personal Training – Our Philosophies

07/26/2025
Doing the boring stuff, consistently, over time.

Social media will have you thinking there's always some new science, exercise, or methodology that's the secret sauce or shortcut to finally achieving your goals.

This is 100% false.

The truth is really quite simple. Success and reaching your physical fitness or health goals comes down to just doing the boring stuff, consistently, over time. Period.

That doesn't mean you shouldn't enjoy your workouts or that everyone needs to do the same cookie cutter programs or choose the same exercises in order see results, far from it. You still need to find the movement patterns, methods, set & rep schemes, frequency levels, volume, and intensity levels that work best for you. The reality is that the most successful individuals stop chasing the latest exercises they see the influencers on Instagram or TikTok doing and stick to what works for them. 9 times out of 10, those are going to be the tried and true movements and methods that have worked for decades.

This is where we come in. At Goodyear personal training we hold several key philosophies:

1. Get Strong

Regardless of your personal goals, gender, sport, or age, getting stronger will only help you reach your target faster. Even if strength isn't your primary goal or even a concern of yours, getting stronger will help you reach your primary goal faster and maintain it for longer.

2. Enjoy Yourself

Hate squats and crunches? Don't do them. There's always another path to reach your end goal. Workouts should be something to look forward to, not something to dread. If you hate doing it and never have something to look forward to in your training, it's only a matter of time before you stop altogether, it's just how humans are wired.

3. Always be Progressing

Each workout is an opportunity to be better than you were yesterday and it's those small steps over time that lead to life changing results.

There's so many ways to measure progress and at Goodyear Personal Training we celebrate every progression. Progress can mean more weight on the bar, the same workout in less time, more reps per set, more sets per workout, more workouts per week, and so many other ways. Each workout is an opportunity to be better than you were yesterday and it's those small steps over time that lead to life changing results.

4. Focus on Yourself

This is the hard one for most people but arguably one of the most important to prevent derailing progress. You have to ignore what others are doing or saying and focus on yourself. It doesn't matter if nobody else in the gym is doing what your are. It doesn't matter if you're not following the latest social media trend. Disregard what others may do or say and focus on yourself.

5. Everyone is Different

Group training and bootcamp style classes can be a great tool to stay active and get your heart rate up or help you add some variety to your week every now and then but nothing can replace a truly customized program built for you. People respond in unique ways to the same movements and exercises, exploring what works best for you is absolutely necessary if you're serious about meaningful progress beyond the mundane and generic.

Time to get to work.

These are some of our underlying philosophies and guide us as we work together with our trainees. Although we could make this list quite long and have much more to say about how to build the best version of ourselves physically, these 5 core philosophies will help you on your journey regardless of if you train with us or not.

Get strong, have fun, always do better than last time in some way or another, focus on yourself, and avoid generic workouts or cookie cutter routines.
